Human Resource Management
Newton is a scholar-practitioner in the disciplines of Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, and Conflict Management. Newton George attended Trinity College. He then went on to further his studies at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine (UWI) where he obtained a B.Sc. in Sociology. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management (with distinction) from UWI – Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business, and an LLB (Hons) from the University of London. Currently he lectures at the Masters level at UWI-Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business in Contemporary Industrial Relations, and Legal and Ethical Framework of Human Resource Management. He is an independent Industrial Relations Consultant, and works also with the FIFA Development Division.
His employment record includes working at the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union (O.W.T.U.) and at the Ministry of Labour, both instances as a Labour Relations Officer. He worked for a short period as an understudy to the Senior Assistant Registrar Human Resource and Industrial Relations at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. He formerly held the position of Industrial Relations Manager at the National Petroleum Marketing Company Limited (NP), and last held the position of Head Industrial Relations & Safety at Telecommunications Services of Trinidad & Tobago (TSTT). His distinctive competencies are negotiations of collective bargaining agreements, conflict management, training & development, and Industrial Court advocacy.
In addition to a number of other functions he is also performed as an Industrial Relations Lecturer with the University of New Brunswick – Canada for the B.A. in Business Administration programme, facilitated through UWI/ROYTEC. He has over sixteen (16) years experience in human resource management / industrial relations and is a principal consultant for the Employers Consultative Association (ECA). The ECA is the body most representative of employers in Trinidad and Tobago.
